Mission Accomplished

I’m awake early on the day after Thanksgiving.  Why?  No, I’m not participating in any of the Black Friday shenanigans.  That’s not me.  I’m up early because we achieved all of our goals on Thanksgiving Day.

GOAL #1 – Coffee while reading news headlines on my laptop followed by making a classic breakfast of eggs, sausage and toast.  This goal was a necessity because Thanksgiving is a drinking holiday for us and it is imperative to get things started with caffeine and food in our systems.  CHECK.

GOAL #2 – Get into the swim spa with our designated drinks of the day and get the party started.  It was a beautiful fall day in New England without a cloud to be found in the sky.  It was 55 degrees and the spa was set to 100 degrees.  A nice, relaxing two hours in the spa puts a warmth into your body that lasts for hours afterward.  We enjoyed the spa while Cheli layed in the grass on a gorgeous day. Thankful To Be Thankful

How can you not get all melancholy around Thanksgiving?  People tend to think of things they are thankful for.  Most people are thankful for family, friends, having a job, a new flavor of Doritos being test marketed or whatever.  This year is no different for me – I always try to put a list together in my head and gee, I am thankful for so many things.  Let’s take a second to look inside my skull and see what’s in there for Thanksgiving 2012.

C’mon in – There’s a comfy chair over there in the corner and a soft light on.  Kick your feet up on the ottoman if you’d like…

This year I am first and foremost thankful for recently joining the ranks of the unemployed.  Hold on, don’t feel badly for me, this is a good thing.  Legally, I can’t say anything about anything to do with my last job without getting my pants sued off of me.  But let me just say the last month and a half working there was the most stressful period of my life and I have lived through some pretty stressful times, my friends.  Having this time off allows me to heal from that experience and get things done around the house.  Financially, I am fine and this unemployment thing won’t cause me any hardship.  I am truly thankful for this time to decompress and realign my strategies.

Now to the really serious stuff. (more…)

Playing Cards In The Middle East Sandbox

Crazy BastardI hope you’ve been following the events in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz these past few weeks.  In case you’ve been living under a rock or have been spending all of your free time Tebowing, here’s the deal – Iran is threatening to shut down the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz in the wake of another round of spats with the rest of the normal world.  Without this key point being open, oil from the Persian Gulf won’t be able to utilize its main transportation through fare to the rest of the world.  Choke, choke, cough, gak, caput.

That’s quite a bargaining chip and don’t think for a second the Obama administration believes there’s a possibility that Iran is bluffing.  Check out the prices at your local gas pump – they’re on the rise again and it’s not because Exxon is starving for profits. (more…)

Forget The Turkey, Patriots Feast On Lions

A new attitude, a new logo, a new coach and a semi-new stadium still aren’t enough for the Detroit Lions to overcome their curse of losing and looking like idiots on national TV.  For those who follow the Lions, at least they offered a glimmer of hope during the first half of their annual Thanksgiving Day game against the New England Patriots.  For those who don’t follow them (and keep their sanity intact each week) it was just another “nice try, you’re still not an NFL-caliber team” kind of performance. Mythical Adventures

Myth:  Iran poses a serious nuclear threat
Fact:   As much as the United States would like to you to believe, Iran does NOT pose any nuclear threat…to any of us here, anyway.  Iran is simply enriching uranium for use in stopping the forthcoming attempted world takeover by aliens from a distant galaxy.  Why do you think they’ve been dinking around with the U.N. so much?  First they say they will allow inspections, then they disallow them, then saying they will cooperate with the United States and then pulling the rug out from underneath us when it’s time to sit down and talk?  It’s because in the end, when their up to date systems take out the entire fleet of aliens as they descend on Los Angeles, they’ll be able to stand up and rub it in our snot-nosed American faces.  Of course we’ll all be hiding in underground bunkers when that time comes because all the diplomacy between us and Russia has done nothing but weaken our defenses and make our forces obsolete.  Oh, and let’s not forget about all of those defense budget cuts over the past several years, too. Black Friday – What A CROCK

Kim and I stayed home for Thanksgiving this year.  It was great!  For a change we got to get out of bed when we felt like it and we took our time getting ready for the Lions game.  No getting up early, no having to drive forever to a destination we didn’t want to go to in the first place, no having to cook lousy food.  It was truly a day off for us for the first time in years!

We’re Detroit Lions fans so as usual we watched them lose to Green Bay.  When we lived in the Detroit area we used to go to the Thanksgiving games at the Silverdome, and we got to see Barry Sanders run wild.  Now we watch the Lions from far away and losing the game still feels the same. (more…)
